What is acute prostatitis in men

Pain in patients with acute prostatitis

Acute prostatitis is an inflammatory disease, usually contagious, with swelling and the formation of ulcers in the tissues of the organ of the same name. In the past it was thought that they mainly affected older men, but research has shown that the pathology has been noticeably "rejuvenated". And now prostatitis occurs in middle-aged patients.

In treatment, not only drugs, but also folk remedies can be used in consultation with a specialist.

Pathological cause

Acute prostatitis is diagnosed in 30-50% of men, most commonly at the most able-bodied age, 30 to 50 years old. This inflammation causes:

  • erectile dysfunction;
  • infertility;
  • Frustrated.

The pathogens of the disease are mainly non-specific infectious agents. These are pathogenic microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, etc. But sometimes acute prostatitis is caused by other pathogens associated with sexually transmitted diseases - chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, gonorrhea, mycoplasma. Usually the cause is a conditional pathogenic flora - Candida.

The main reason for the development of prostatitis is attributed to the penetration of infection, most commonly through the transtubular route. This occurs through the excretory duct of the prostate. Because they open in the wall of the posterior urethra, the development of prostatitis is affected by diseases such as urethritis.

In men, acute cystitis (inflammation of the bladder caused by bacteria) is rare. But if so, then in this case the prostate is affected and the pathogenic flora enters the prostate. If there is a concomitant condition - stones in the urethra, which can cause increased pressure in the urethra, bacteria can enter the organ faster.

Sometimes, due to the penetration of blood infections, an inflammatory process may occur, since the prostate is provided with the help of a developed network of arteries and veins. This happens when there are chronic inflammatory foci in the body, but they are not associated with the prostate. Infections spread through the bloodstream and include sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, and even dental caries.

The presence of cholecystitis (disease of the gallbladder) can also lead to the development of acute prostatitis. Sometimes, lymphatic spread of intestinal infections is also possible (proctitis and colitis).

Non-infectious factors in the development of prostatitis - pelvic vascular congestion, irregular sex life and its violations. Prostatitis may be included in men who experience sexual interruptions.

The factors that cause this disease are:

  • a sedentary lifestyle;
  • Digestive disorders (mainly frequent constipation);
  • hypothermia and decreased immunity;
  • Varicose veins;
  • Excessive drinking.

Basic form

There are three forms of the disease:

  1. Cataract. The ducts of the prostate are predominantly inflamed but unchanged at the macroscopic level. In the catheter itself, a dystrophic process of the outer epithelium is observed, there is mild swelling in the stroma, hypervascularity.
  2. follicles. When prostatitis becomes follicular form and the inflammatory process has affected the prostate tissue, both the reverse development of this process and its increase are possible. The body gets bigger and looser. A focal infiltrate was present around the duct.
  3. substance. The most severe stage of the disease. With it, the inflammatory process affects the entire gland, forming an abscess. If the course of the disease is unfavorable, it opens up and pus enters the bowel, bladder, and urethra.

symptom

Common symptoms are urinary disturbances, pain and signs of toxicity - weakness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and other unpleasant phenomena that cause discomfort.

The remaining symptoms of acute prostatitis correspond to the stages of development of the process:

stage symptom
Cataract The first signs are heaviness and pain in the perineum. There is a voiding disorder, ie a voiding disorder, its increase, the appearance of pain or pain in the process. Body temperature usually remains normal, sometimes rising slightly. Diagnosis at this stage involves the study of prostate secretions. It can show an increase in the number of white blood cells, the presence of mucopurulent lines. Urinalysis showed increased white blood cells. At this stage, prostate massage is not prescribed due to pain. But medication can get you rid of the lesions in 7-10 days.
follicle Symptoms will be more pronounced. This stage is accompanied by a dull throbbing pain in the perineum, but can also occur in the anus, rectum, or lumbar region. Urinating becomes so painful that urinary retention may occur.

The act of defecation is difficult, also because of severe pain. Body temperature rose to 38 degrees and overall health deteriorated. Patient Experience:

  • weakness;
  • Headache;
  • muscle and joint pain;
  • persistent feeling of weakness and fatigue
substance In acute parenchymal prostatitis, the temperature rises to 39 degrees. Fever or chills. Urination can be rapid, but it is often difficult to stop completely because trying to empty the bladder can be accompanied by severe pain. Flatulence occurs, digestion is disturbed, and constipation occurs. Pain in the rectum. From pain, they turned into throbbing. A person tries to find a position where he will not feel pain (most commonly when he is lying down with his legs together). In the acute form of prostatitis, the prostate gland increases and swells. There may be a white or greenish-yellow discharge from the urethra

The consequences of acute prostatitis may be sepsis (general blood poisoning), cystitis, or pyelonephritis. If the disease progresses to such complications, the patient requires hospitalization. But in mild cases, the pathology can be treated at home.

treat

The treatment of acute prostatitis should be comprehensive. Treatment involves eliminating the cause of the disease, the pathogenic microorganism. In this case, antibiotics, their combination, are used because one drug rarely produces the desired effect.

With prompt treatment, symptoms disappear quickly in just a few days. But doctors prescribe a course of at least 4 weeks to completely rid the body of harmful bacteria, preventing relapse and the process turning into a chronic form.

Antibiotics are prescribed only based on the results of tests that reveal the causative agent of the disease and its resistance to certain drugs. Other factors are also taken into account. For example, aminoglycosides and beta-lactams do not penetrate well into prostate tissue.

Fluoroquinolones and macrolides have higher penetrating power.

But not only the penetration ability is very important, but also the strength of the bactericidal effect. Therefore, macrolides and other drugs are sometimes prescribed. The form of release of these drugs can vary.

Candles are rarely used. In severe cases of illness, intravenous antibiotics are required (as well as in hospital settings). In mild cases, treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, with patients taking medication at home.

To reduce pain, analgesics and anti-inflammatory nonsteroidal drugs are used. They lower the temperature, but sometimes additional antipyretics are prescribed. For more severe pain, short-term opioids can be used.

For the treatment of acute prostatitis, the important role is to drink plenty of fluids, and most importantly - cranberry juice or rosehip broth to flush the urethra, reduce poisoning and prevent the development of cystitis and pyelonephritis. Use a laxative like petroleum jelly.

For urination problems, antispasmodics and alpha-blockers may be prescribed.

If you have muscle cramps, take a muscle relaxant.

folk remedies

Treating this disease with folk remedies can only be used as an add-on, which enhances the effects of taking medicines.

A popular folk remedy is pumpkin seeds. They have been shown to contain high amounts of zinc, which has anti-inflammatory properties. To get the correct dose of this substance, it is sufficient to eat 30 grams of peeled raw seeds once a day before meals.

You can make a mixture based on pumpkin seeds (only not fried) and honey:

  1. Blend 500 grams of purified stock in a meat grinder or blender.
  2. Add a cup of honey that is not too liquid.
  3. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is thick enough to mold the mixture into walnut-sized balls.

Product is stored in the refrigerator. During the day you need to eat 1-2 of these balls half an hour before meals. Medication must be chewed thoroughly, not swallowed immediately.
